8-Point Lead: Democrats Favor in Midterm Polls as Israel Votes
New data shows a narrow Democratic advantage in the U.S. House, while Israeli voters face a decisive choice between Netanyahu and Eisenkot.

American voters face a narrow but tangible shift in political power, with new data suggesting Democrats are favored to control the U.S. House of Representatives. In Israel, citizens are casting ballots in an election that determines whether Benjamin Netanyahu remains prime minister or is replaced by Gadi Eisenkot. These two events unfold simultaneously, shaping the political trajectories of two major global powers.
The shift in the United States follows a period of economic strain. According to a survey conducted by NPR, PBS News, and Marist, one in three Americans currently reports financial hardship. Additionally, four in ten respondents say their personal finances are deteriorating. These economic concerns stand in contrast to the political landscape, where President Trump’s approval rating holds at 40%. This figure represents a slight improvement for the president, yet it remains a weak showing relative to historical averages.
The path to this moment involves recent legal and administrative actions regarding election integrity. A federal judge is hearing arguments on Tuesday regarding the Trump administration's effort to force California to set aside ballots from voters allegedly not citizens. This hearing follows an appeals court decision from the previous night that declined the administration's request to intervene. Separately, the White House announced a $1 million reward for tips on voter fraud that lead to a conviction. Polymarket, a prediction market platform, has investigated dozens of bets tied to the midterms, according to Shana Bautista, the company's head of global intelligence and investigations.
In the United States, the next scheduled step is the general election, which occurs one week from now. Domenico Montanaro of NPR noted that it is unlikely Democrats will lose the House, but control of the Senate remains uncertain. He advised that winners in close races may not be known by election night, a common occurrence in tightly contested votes. The survey indicates that economic worries loom large, while protecting democracy resonates most with Democrats and independents. Immigration remains the top issue for MAGA supporters.
In Israel, voters are choosing between keeping Netanyahu, the longest-serving prime minister, or replacing him with Eisenkot, a former military chief who promises more diplomacy. This is the first election since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. High turnout is expected, with some Israelis abroad traveling home to vote. At one polling station, Itamar Ariel stated he believes only Netanyahu can guarantee Israel's security. Other voters seek a change in leadership to launch an investigation into the attacks, an inquiry Netanyahu has previously blocked.
By Wednesday morning, it should be clear which side won the most seats in the Israeli Parliament, though counting could continue for days. The identity of the next prime minister will not be known until after days or possibly weeks of negotiations between the parties. In the United States, the midterm elections will determine the balance of power in Congress, with the House control leaning toward Democrats based on current polling data.
