The United States is preparing for a potential resumption of military strikes against Iran, but President Donald Trump says Washington can finish the job in ten minutes. Speaking overnight on Sunday, the president addressed the status of the Iranian nuclear program and the ongoing diplomatic talks.
Trump stated that one or two sites remain to be dealt with, specifically naming Pickaxe Mountain. He said, 'We can do it in ten minutes. We have a plan for it, and we can execute it very quickly.' The remarks came after Trump spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The presidential call occurred hours after Trump met with senior military commanders to discuss options for resuming operations. Those present included Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Joint Chiefs Chairman General Dan Caine.
In recent weeks, the Pentagon has reinforced air defense systems and ammunition stocks in the Middle East. At the same time, the US has repositioned forces from bases vulnerable to Iranian retaliation. Last week, ten US Air Force transport aircraft landed at Israeli Air Force bases in the south. KAN News reported that these planes, originating from Fort Bliss in Texas, likely carried air defense systems to protect regional assets.
Other aircraft in the convoy landed in Jordan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. An additional Patriot system has been transferred to the region. An Israeli source told KAN that an additional US naval aircraft carrier and a Marine unit may join American forces in the area. Two weeks ago, dozens of Israeli fighter jets flew practice sorties up to the Iranian border before turning back.
Trump expressed doubt about the reliability of Iranian negotiators. He said, 'They want to reach an agreement, and we will see what happens. Things are moving along fine, but they are not really reliable. They reach an agreement and then back out.' The timing of these developments is sensitive for the US political calendar. Congressional midterm elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 3.
Rising fuel prices and the ongoing conflict weigh on Republican support. Defense officials assess that the White House will not order an operation before the elections unless it detects preparations for a surprise Iranian attack. The US has reportedly pushed back the timeline for war, while Iran has deliberately prolonged negotiations.
In Tehran, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei ordered military commanders to prepare for an immediate and powerful response without geographical limits if another attack occurs. Iranian Chief of Staff General Ali Abdollahi warned that Iran has expanded its list of potential targets. He stated that Iran will determine the end date of any new war.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today that if President Trump wanted to act militarily, he would have done so weeks or months ago. Rubio clarified that the US possesses all necessary capabilities for a successful operation. Diplomatic talks and military preparations are proceeding in parallel as of this week.
