Ukrainian military operations relied heavily on satellite connectivity for drone control and logistics during the recent conflict phase. The Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that full access to Starlink and Starshield services has been restored for units moving at high velocity. This development concludes a period of throttled speeds that affected front-line assets for more than seven days.

Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara reported that monitoring systems now show stable connections for objects traveling faster than 250 mph. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that technical checks verified the correct speed limits for both the commercial Starlink network and the military-grade Starshield variant. Zelenskyy stated that the restoration process began the previous night, with sufficient speeds available by morning. He described the return to normal parameters as vital for front-line logistics and for countering Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russia.

The temporary restrictions on the satellite internet service caused operational friction for Ukrainian commanders. Military leaders reported lost drones and interrupted missions during the week when speed limits were in place. The connectivity issues stemmed from the infrastructure provided by SpaceX, a company founded by Elon Musk. Ukraine has depended on this satellite network for years to coordinate defense against Russian attacks. The sudden change in service levels prompted questions about the origin of the interruption orders.

The resolution of the connectivity issue coincides with renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war. U.S. envoys initiated a new push for a settlement this week. Russia agreed on Wednesday to resume three-way negotiations with Washington and Kyiv next month. Additionally, Kyiv and Moscow agreed on Friday to a localized ceasefire around Oleshky, a Russian-occupied town in the Kherson region. First Lady Melania Trump brokered that specific truce. The timing adds another layer to the complex relationship between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia.

Tensions between Kyiv and Washington had already risen due to a reported deal between President Donald Trump and Moscow regarding Russian diesel imports. Ukrainian officials viewed that trade arrangement as a strategic setback. Khmara attributed the restoration of satellite speeds to direct dialogue and Zelenskyy’s diplomatic efforts with Washington. He emphasized that the fix was critical for the work of drones, logistics, and communications at the front. Zelenskyy thanked American partners for taking the matter seriously.

Uncertainty remains regarding who ordered the initial interruptions to the satellite system. Trump has maintained that he did not make the decision to limit speeds. He also stated that Musk should not be held responsible for the disruption. The military now operates with full bandwidth for its high-speed aerial assets.
