Luhansk Court Orders Russia to Pay Oliiar for Sunflower Seeds Lost in Svatove
The ruling covers 2,107 tonnes of seed stock that remained in a warehouse after Russian forces seized the facility in early 2022.

The Commercial Court of Luhansk Oblast issued a ruling on October 24, 2026, requiring the Russian state to pay UAH 65.36 million, approximately $1.6 million, to the Ukrainian firm Oliiar. The compensation addresses a specific loss of agricultural inventory that occurred during the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Oliiar purchased 4,700 tonnes of sunflower seeds from the 2021 harvest from Prydniprovske Agrarian Company LLC in October 2021. The company arranged for Svatove-Ahro LLC to store the crop at a warehouse in the city of Svatove. By February 24, 2022, the storage facility had transferred 2,592 tonnes to Oliiar. The remaining 2,107 tonnes stayed in the warehouse when Russian armed groups seized the premises after the full-scale invasion began. The court determined that Oliiar provided conclusive evidence linking the loss of the crop directly to Russia's armed aggression. The ruling orders the Russian Ministry of Justice, which represents the state in the case, to cover the costs based on an expert valuation. Oliiar is registered in Pustomyty, Lviv Oblast, with Iryna Zalizna listed as the founder and Iryna Podoba as the director. This decision follows a previous order from the same court. In that earlier case, the court ordered Russia to pay UAH 51.67 million, roughly $1.25 million, to Trading House Agrokhim LLC. That firm lost property in both Svatove and Kakhovka, located in Kherson Oblast.
